Lt. Krystal Gibson (Retired) grew up in a small town in East Tennessee near the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. It was there that she decided to dedicate her life to law enforcement and served for more than 20 years. In February of 2023, Lt. Gibson retired, bringing with her a vast amount of knowledge and experience in many different areas of law enforcement.

Lt. Gibson began her career in corrections and then moved to a patrol assignment shortly after. She was a field training officer before being promoted to Detective/Sergeant. As a newly appointed Sergeant, she was reassigned to the homicide division, where she would spend most of her career. Though this assignment was extremely challenging, Gibson felt an overwhelming sense of duty to the families whose loved ones' lives were cut short by unfathomable acts of violence. She spent more than a decade leading investigations into these heinous crimes and working persistently to bring offenders to justice.

In 2017, Gibson was promoted to Lieutenant and would spend the following year in homicide before transferring back to patrol, where she assumed oversight of multiple shifts. Gibson remained on patrol until the last year of her tenure when she would return to criminal investigations; however, this time as a Lieutenant specializing in Elder Abuse cases within the Family Crisis Detective Division.

Lt. Gibson's pursuit of continual learning paved the way for her to acquire multiple instructor-level certifications ranging from driving instruction to becoming one of the department's only certified verbal de-escalation instructors. She was also a member of the crisis/hostage negotiation team. She served in this capacity for 15 years, five of those as the team's Commander.

Gibson is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of the Cumberlands (UC), working toward her dissertation defense. She holds a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from UC, a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from UC, and two Associate's Degrees from Walters State Community College, one in general studies and the other in criminal justice.

Despite her retirement, Gibson remains active in law enforcement as an adjunct professor for multiple courses in UC's undergraduate Criminal Justice program. She is also a member of the academic advisory board for the Department of Criminal Justice and Graduate Studies.

When she's not teaching, volunteering, or conducting research, Gibson enjoys spending time with her husband Brent, who is also a law enforcement officer, and their two beautiful daughters.
